Define production scheduling profile – SAP PP

Hello Dear SAP PP learners if you are looking for Define production scheduling profile in SAP PP | Define production scheduling profile in SAP Production Planning | Define production scheduling profile Notes in SAP PP | Define production scheduling profile IN SAP Production Planning with notes then you will get information here

SAP offers Production scheduling profile as a standard profile to configure order controls.
Such controls are material specific. The Profile is assigned to an header material for which
you are creating an order.

SAP makes it easier for planners to have controls set at material level rather than keepinig
them at order level so that you can opt for different set of control for different kinds of
producible materials.

Define production scheduling – Configuration Details

In SAP PP (Production Planning), a production scheduling profile is a configuration object that defines various parameters and settings related to production scheduling. It governs how production orders are scheduled, prioritized, and processed within the SAP system. Here are the key configuration details typically included in a production scheduling profile:

  1. Scheduling Parameters: The scheduling profile contains parameters that influence the scheduling logic used for production orders. This includes settings such as scheduling direction (forward or backward), scheduling type (finite or infinite capacity), and scheduling horizon (time frame for scheduling).
  2. Capacity Requirements: Configuration details specify how capacity requirements are calculated and considered during production scheduling. This includes settings for capacity leveling, resource availability checks, and capacity overloads handling.
  3. Lead Time Calculation: The profile defines rules for calculating lead times for production orders. This includes lead times for procurement of materials, setup times at work centers, and transportation times between operations.
  4. Priority Determination: Configuration settings determine the factors used to prioritize production orders. This can include criteria such as order type, customer priority, material availability, and due dates.
  5. Availability Check: The profile specifies parameters for checking material availability during production scheduling. This includes settings for availability check scope, checking rules, and tolerance limits for material shortages.
  6. Production Control Indicators: Configuration details include indicators for controlling the production process. This can include settings for automatic release of production orders, automatic goods movements, and confirmation requirements.
  7. Confirmation Parameters: The profile contains parameters related to production confirmation processes. This includes settings for confirmation control keys, confirmation types, confirmation quantity tolerances, and confirmation status updates.
  8. Capacity Planning: Configuration details include settings for capacity planning and leveling during production scheduling. This includes parameters for resource capacity calculation, capacity leveling strategies, and capacity constraints.
  9. Output Determination: The profile defines rules for determining output messages and notifications related to production scheduling. This includes settings for triggering alerts, sending notifications, and generating reports based on specific events or conditions.
  10. Integration with Other Modules: Configuration details specify how production scheduling interacts with other SAP modules such as Materials Management (MM), Sales and Distribution (SD), and Finance and Controlling (FICO). This includes settings for data exchange, master data synchronization, and process integration.

Parameters set as above for XXXXX requirement while preparing Order with the production
scheduling profile as BL0001 with manual release of order and no auto GR.

This profile used use to specify that certain business transactions are carried out in parallel in
a production order / process order (we can, for example, create and release an order at the
same time, or release an order and print the shop papers), trigger an automatic goods receipt,
specify an overall profile for capacity leveling.

Use:
The production scheduling profile is copied into the order during order creation.

Production Scheduler

Production Scheduler is a key role responsible for managing and optimizing production schedules to ensure efficient utilization of resources and timely completion of production orders. The Production Scheduler plays a crucial role in coordinating production activities, balancing production capacities, and aligning schedules with demand forecasts and customer requirements. Here’s an overview of the responsibilities and functions of a Production Scheduler in SAP PP:

  1. Production Planning: The Production Scheduler is responsible for creating and maintaining production plans based on demand forecasts, sales orders, and inventory levels. They collaborate with production planners, sales teams, and other stakeholders to develop achievable production schedules that meet customer demand while optimizing resource utilization.
  2. Production Scheduling: The Production Scheduler generates production schedules for manufacturing operations, taking into account factors such as available capacity, material availability, lead times, and production priorities. They use SAP PP functionalities to schedule production orders, allocate resources, and sequence operations to optimize production efficiency.
  3. Capacity Planning: The Production Scheduler performs capacity planning to ensure that production schedules are feasible within the constraints of available resources, including labor, machines, and materials. They monitor capacity utilization, identify bottlenecks, and adjust schedules as needed to balance workloads and meet production targets.
  4. Resource Allocation: The Production Scheduler allocates resources, such as work centers, machines, tools, and personnel, to production orders based on priority, availability, and capacity constraints. They coordinate with production supervisors and resource managers to ensure that resources are deployed effectively to support production activities.
  5. Schedule Monitoring and Adjustment: The Production Scheduler monitors production schedules in real-time using SAP PP tools and dashboards. They track progress, identify deviations from the plan, and make adjustments as needed to address issues such as material shortages, equipment breakdowns, or unexpected changes in demand.
  6. Communication and Coordination: The Production Scheduler communicates production schedules and updates to relevant stakeholders, including production teams, procurement, logistics, and customer service. They coordinate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of production plans with overall business objectives and customer expectations.
  7. Continuous Improvement: The Production Scheduler continuously reviews and evaluates production schedules to identify opportunities for optimization and improvement. They analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production efficiency, on-time delivery, and resource utilization to drive continuous improvement initiatives and enhance operational excellence.
  8. Compliance and Reporting: The Production Scheduler ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and company policies related to production scheduling and execution. They generate reports and performance metrics using SAP PP reporting tools to track progress, evaluate performance, and support decision-making processes.

The production scheduler is supposedly the person who manages the order and executes it in
the shop floor. A production scheduler can be the shop floor supervisor.
In many cases the MRP controller and the Production Scheduler is kept as the same.

Define Scheduling Parameters for Production Orders

The following Order type Scheduling parameters help in scheduling the order. The scheduling
parameters are set for the order type at the plant level for a production scheduler. If you want to
use the Order type scheduling parameters across all the schedulers you should put a * (star) in the
field while creating the configuration.
